HOW IT WORKS
How it works and the science behind it
biochar stores the carbon plants naturally sequester
HOW IT WORKS
Plants grow, absorbing atmospheric CO2 through photosynthesis. Their dry weight is composed of around 90% carbon.
Step 1
We collect that biomass, only if it was otherwise going to degrade. For example, corn stalks left to rot or wood that would have been burned.
STEp 2
Through the pyrolysis process (heating the material to a high temperature without burning it) carbon is stabilized - meaning it won’t rot and be released.
STEp 3
The finished product, biochar, is used in fertilizers or removing chemicals from water - ensuring it won’t burn and keeps the carbon locked away.
